Interview: Soccer
Alexandra: Okay, so I'm just going to ask you a few questions and will also probably contribute and give my perspective on the situation.
Juan: Okay sounds good to me.
Alexandra: Perfect. Okay well my first question is: why did you decide to join a sports team? Did someone motivate you to do it?
Juan: Well, my family has always been a "soccer family" generation after generation. I was a very energetic child and I always participated in all sports-related activities at school. For that reason, my parents decided to sign me up to play soccer at a club. Since then, soccer has always been my passion.
Alexandra: Okay and how do you think this sport has made you who you are today?
Juan: In so many ways. I would have to say that soccer has created the foundation of who I am today. I am a very dedicated, disciplined and responsible student, and I don't have a doubt that I was able to gain all these characteristics because of soccer. Alexandra: Yea I agree completely. Having played soccer in high school and having such a busy schedule also helped me gain an immense ability to organize and balance my time. Although I must admit that being here in college, with so much time to spare, has made it a bit tough for me. I was not used to having so much time on my hands and for that reason I sometimes feel I can leave things for later because "I will have enough time".
Juan: I mean I'm sure that happens to everyone here and maybe if it would not have been for the time management skills you have gained through soccer, managing your time here would have been even harder. |
Alexandra: Probably! But anyways, continuing with my next question. How do you feel being here in college without being able to practice your sport as much as you did in high school?
Juan: Well I miss soccer a lot and because of this I am always trying to find people to go out to Mcdonough and play with me. Soccer is a stress-reliever for me so even when I have a lot to study, I mean especially when I have a lot to study and a lot of stress, I try to make time to go and pass the ball around with some friends. Alexandra: I totally agree, but I have not been able to play soccer as much as you have though. I guess that in order to do so I have to actually make the effort of finding people to play with me, schedule a time when everyone is free, and take the time to go play. Since I have never been used to this plus it was freshman year and everything was new to me I guess I left it aside. Juan: Yea I'm sure you will be able to make more time for it next year as will I. |
